Introduction
It is important to configure iDRAC alerts and email settings to be notified whenever someting happens with the server's hardware that need immediate attention. While configuring these settings via CLI is possible, we only explain the configuration via WebUI.
Solution
Login
- Login to iDRAC WebUI
Network settings
- In the server pane to the left, expand Overview > iDRAC Settings > Network
- On the Network tab, under Common Settings, make sure the DNS iDRAC Name and Static DNS Domain Name are configured properly. This is expecially important if the SMTP server only accepts email from specific "Mail From" addresses. It is not possible to configure this address yourself, the "Mail From" address will be "DNSiDRACName@StaticDNSDomainName". The example configuration below, noreply@comcert.com will be the "Mail From" address used to send email notifcations.
Alert settings
- In the server pane to the left, expand Overview > Server > Alerts
- On the Alerts tab, under Alerts enable Alerts
- Under Alerts Filter enable email notification for the follwing alerts in adition to those already activated
Category | Alert | Severity |

System Health | Battery Event | Warning and Critical |
System Health | Processor | Warning and Critical |
System Health | Fan | Warning and Critical |
System Health | Memory | Warning and Critical |
System Health | Physical Disk | Warning and Critical |
System Health | Power Supply | Warning and Critical |
System Health | Temperature | Warning and Critical |
Storage | Battery Event | Warning and Critical |
Storage | Fan Event | Critical |
Storage | Physical Disk | Warning and Critical |
Storage | Power Supply | Warning and Critical |
Storage | Temperature | Warning and Critical |
Storage | Vitual Disk | Warning and Critical |
- On the SNMP and Email Settings tab, under Destination Email Addresses, configure the destination email recipient(s) address(es)
- Under SMTP (Email) Server Address Settings, configure all applicable attributes
Test
- Still on the SNMP and Email Settings tab under Destination Email Addresses, click the Send button and verify if the test message have been received by the recipient
