Introduction

It is important to configure iDRAC alerts and email settings to be notified whenever someting happens with the server's hardware that need immediate attention. While configuring these settings via CLI is possible, we only explain the configuration via WebUI.

Solution

Login to iDRAC WebUI.

Network settings

In the server pane to the left, expand Overview > iDRAC Settings > Network

On the Network tab, make sure the DNS iDRAC Name and Static DNS Domain Name are configured properly. This is expecially important if the SMTP server only accepts email from specific "Mail From" addresses. It is not possible to configure this address yourself.  The "Mail Form" address will be "DNSiDRACName@StaticDNSDomainName".

Alert settings

In the server pane to the left, expand Overview > Server > Alerts

On the Alerts tab, under Alerts enable Alerts..

Under Alerts Filter configure the Category and Severity alerts you which to receive.

On the SNMP and Email Settings tab, under Destination Email Addresses, configure the destination email recipient(s) addres(es).

Under SMTP (Email) Server Address Settings, configure all applicable attributes.

Test

Still on the SNMP and Email Settings tab under Destination Email Addresses, click the Send button and verify if the test message has been received by the recipient.

Event Message: Test email to user.
Severity: Informational
