Introduction
As application limits continue to become more stringent, limits proposed by ISO and ANSI are no longer acceptable to evaluate the quality of a fiber optic infrastructure. Using recent ISO and ANSI test limits is especially problematic when testing multi-mode fiber optic links with more than two connections, which is often the case in datacenters.
Solution
We stronly recommend upgrading to Versiv firmware version 6 before continuing. Unless specified otherwise, use these values to create one custom limit for testing PC/UPC terminated links and a second custom limit for testing APC terminated links. Please remember that in case of OTDR, "Connector Loss" should be interpreted as "Reflective Event Loss" and "Splice Loss" as "Non reflective Event Loss".
Maximum length for PC, UPC and APC terminated links
Parameter (m) | Recommended value |
---|---|
Length | N/A |
General Settings for PC, UPC and APC terminated links
Parameter | 850nm | 1300nm | 1310nm | 1490nm | 1550nm | 1625nm |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Overall Loss (Max) (dB) | N/A | N/A | N/A | N/A | N/A | N/A |
Overall Loss (Min) (dB) | N/A | N/A | N/A | N/A | N/A | N/A |
Optical Return Loss (dB) | N/A | N/A | N/A | N/A | N/A | N/A |
Segment Attenuation Coefficient* (Max) (dB/km) | N/A (3.0) | N/A (1.5) | N/A (0.4) | N/A (0.4) | N/A (0.4) | N/A (0.4) |
Segment Attenuation Coefficient (Min) (dB/km) | N/A | N/A | N/A | N/A | N/A | N/A |
(*) Accurate measurements of Segment Attenuation Coefficient requires a long fiber. Therefore, it is recommended to set this limit to N/A (not applicable) for multi-mode and short sinlemode segments. If you have to enforce a limit, use the recommended values between brackets.
